If it were an OBJ file, I think it would have been updated, but I’m not doing this process with OBJ files at present. The PLY file should show a time after noon: So I save project as and tick ‘save all files’ which means the PLYs should be saved as well as the MLP (MeshLab Project).īut in File Explorer it looks like the files have not been updated. You can tell because you can turn the texture on and off the mesh is coloured with and without the texture because it now also has vertex colour: the colours are double strength with textures turned on… see the darker mesh below. Open new MeshLab project and import both PLYs. The PLY is impressively smaller than the OBJ. So now I have two versions of the meshes to play with – PLY and OBJ. Export Mesh As PLY… this still tries to reference the JPG and I’m not sure why as it’s a PLY. The colour transfers over really well… turn Texture Coord Off on the right hand side to see the effect. I’ve copied the folders containing the OBJ, MTL and JPG data to a new location so that MeshLab will save over the OBJs here, leaving my ReCap edited OBJs in the original location as back-ups.įilter > Colour Creation & Processing > Transfer Color > Texture to Vertex I’ll do this one mesh at a time due to the weird issues with MeshLab Project files struggling to reference multiple JPGs. I should assign the texture map info to vertices before going further. OBJ files import with textures referenced. PLY imports fine but contains no colour data. ![]() So the FBX doesn’t show as an import option. Repeat processes for MirrorHandle back: MeshLab Import I expect the PLY is small because there’s no colour data. The PLY file is 6MB, the FBX is 30MB and the OBJ is 25MB with an associated 19MB JPG. I exported a PLY, an FBX and an OBJ, which generates a folder containing OBJ, MTL and JPG files.
